Leaders Grow Here: The Culture That Drives ProScape's Success

Written by Luke Henry, Founder and President | Feb 11, 2025 3:49:32 PM

When I started ProScape, I didn’t know much about leadership. I loved the smell of freshly cut grass, and I worked really hard. But, as I started to grow a team, I quickly figured out that I needed to expand my leadership skill set, or I would quickly hit a ceiling. I cared about our team, and I wanted to find tangible ways to show each individual, and create a culture that was unique in the green industry space. As we’ve grown, we’ve built with the idea that taking care of people—our team members, our clients, and our partners—comes first.

For me, this business isn’t just work; it’s personal. Our tagline, “Leaders grow here,” reflects my belief that growth is the foundation for success, not just in landscaping, but in life. Whether that’s helping a team member find their path forward, guiding a client through a challenging project, or pushing ourselves to be better every day, it all connects back to growth. In fact, we say that growth is not optional at ProScape. We invest in people with the goal that their time working at ProScape changed the trajectory of their life for the better, both personally and professionally.

The 3 C’s That Shape Us

From day one, I wanted ProScape to stand for more than just the services we offer. That’s where our “3 C’s” come in: Care, Capability, and Communication.

First and foremost is Care. Clients work with us because they know we take their needs seriously, prioritizing their goals as if they’re our own. But it doesn’t stop there—caring also means showing up for our team and building an environment where people feel valued and supported, like they belong.

Then there’s Capability, which is about being excellent at what we do. It’s not enough to care; we have to deliver. That means investing in training, tools, equipment, and a team with the skills to exceed expectations.

Lastly, there’s Communication, the glue that holds everything together. Whether it’s a quick check-in or planning out a major project, clear and consistent communication keeps us aligned with each other and with our clients. These three principles guide us every single day.

Why We Focus on Leadership

Every Wednesday, our team gathers for a leadership development session. We cover all kinds of topics—some professional, some personal—but the goal is always the same: to grow. These sessions remind us that leadership isn’t about titles; it’s about how we show up—for ourselves, for our team, and for our clients. We talk openly about feedback, constructive discourse, transparency, goals, habits, decision-making, and how to be a servant leader. These aren’t your typical topics for a landscaping team meeting! But for us, it has created a shared language and level of trust that sets us apart.

Building this culture of leadership has been one of the most rewarding parts of running ProScape. I’ve seen people who started with zero landscaping experience grow into confident leaders who not only excel in their roles but mentor others. That growth spills into everything we do, from the projects we finish to the relationships we build with our clients and partners.

A Culture That Creates Connection

At ProScape, we don’t just focus on the properties we maintain. We focus on the people—on both sides of every project. Our culture is rooted in our values and in our mission to create something meaningful. I believe that as we invest in people, that care and intentionality ripple outward, creating stronger teams and happier clients.

“Leaders grow here” isn’t just a tagline for us; it’s a promise. We want everyone who works with us—whether as a team member, client, or partner—to leave better than they came. Because when a company is built on growth and care, the results speak for themselves, both in beautifully transformed landscapes and in the trust and happiness of those we serve.

Our strong culture is what makes this possible. And at the end of the day, it’s also why I love what I do.
